& ROSARIO DAWSON
THE ARTIST RETURNS TO New York
July 30, 2019
Fairey returns to Bowery and creates a new mural of Actress and Activist Rosario Dawson. The mural is a celebration of women's empowerment.
Fairey returns to New York, now welcomed by the city. The mural on 190 Bowery, a building that has seen its facade change over the years, has been renovated. On the ground floor sits the Supreme store. When Fairey came to put murals before during his college years, the building was covered with graffiti. Now artists like Fairey are welcomed to the neighborhood. Although Fairey will admit "I like the grimy version better."
The mural is called "Power and Equality." It will be there for the next six years. Rosario Dawson grew up on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. She is a fighter for women's rights and social justice. So it was fitting that the mural look over the very neighborhood she called home. See the images below and it you are in New York, go check it out for yourself.
