JOINS PRADA AS CO-CREATIVE DIRECTOR WITH MIUCCIA PRADA
The legendary Belgian designer Raf Simons, who has previously designed for Jil Sanders, Dior and Calvin Klein has now inked the deal to be co-creative director for Prada. Alongside Miuccia Prada, with equal responsibility, the unconventional configuration will no doubt have us waiting to see what comes of it. Simons will continue to design for his own menswear label.
One of the most influential designers of this generation, we decided to give you a brief history on his career.
Born in Neerpelt, Belgium in 1968
Graduated in Industrial Design and Furniture Design in 1991 and began working as a furniture designer for galleries and private interiors. In a radical change, he became a self taught menswear designer in 1995 and launched his Raf Simons Label.
October 2000, Simons is appointed Head Professor Of the Fashion Department of the University of Applied Arts in Vienna where he worked until June 2005.
Named Creative Director of Jil Sander Menswear and Womenswear from July 2005 until February 2012. April 2012 Raf Simons was named Artistic Director of DIOR for women’s Haute Couture, ready to wear and accessory collections. From there in 2016 he was named Creative Officer of Calvin Klein.
